Bringing the Rebozo Workshop to Your Community—Become a Host or Sponsor
About Me
My name is Lucia Echeri, a Purépecha woman born and raised within the Purépecha community in Michoacán, Mexico. I am an environmental biochemical engineer, doula , medicine woman and student midwife with a passion for permaculture, and the ancestral arts. Witnessing cultural appropriation and the misrepresentation of indigenous knowledge motivated me to create Echeri International, a platform to honor and preserve indigenous practices while empowering our communities socially, culturally, and economically.
At Echeri International, I strive to bring ancestral knowledge to life in a way that is authentic, ethical, and supportive of indigenous voices. This work is centered on honoring and empowering BIPOC, QPOC, and indigenous communities. If you or your audience do not align with these values, this workshop is not a good fit for you.
I am inviting community members and organizations to collaborate with me in organizing a Rebozo Workshop. There are two ways you can make this happen: Hosting or Sponsoring.
Sponsoring a Rebozo Workshop
Sponsors lead the organization of a Rebozo Workshop in their community by covering the full cost of the event and taking responsibility for logistics. Sponsorship offers you more control over event specifics, such as attendee selection and ticket management, while ensuring the cultural integrity of the workshop. Sponsorship agreements range from $5000–$10000, depending on event details. (How many attendants will be or if you want to include rebozo in the training for the attendees).
Sponsor Responsibilities:
- Work with Echeri to choose a 2- or 3-day workshop option (detailed itineraries available).
- Select mutually agreed-upon workshop dates.
- Define key workshop logistics, including:
- Number of attendees.
- Payment schedule: 50% due 1 month before the workshop, the remaining 50% due 1 week prior.
- Arrange for transportation, meals, and accommodation. (if not possible let me know in advance).
- Sign a memorandum of agreement confirming all responsibilities.
- Use Echeri’s materials to promote attendance and ticket sales.
- Handle ticket sales and discounts (in case that you have too). Ticket prices must not exceed:
- $500 for a 3-day workshop. (must sponsors don’t charge for the event).
Venue: Ensure the space can comfortably accommodate a minimum of 15 people. If possible, it is appreciated if the space includes access to tables and chairs for hands-on activities.
Logistics: Arrange the guest list and attendee management, deciding who will attend. You will also confirm the number of attendees and any additional needs for the workshop.
Materials: I will provide all printed manuals, guides, and pre-recorded materials, as well as demonstrations on rebozo techniques and postpartum care. Sponsors are encouraged to consider providing herbal supplies for workshop activities, though this is not mandatory.
Meals (Optional): Sponsors sometimes offer food or snacks for participants. While not required, it is important to communicate this in advance so attendees are informed. Workshops can be intensive, and a meal or snack break adds comfort and ease to the experience.
Hosting a Rebozo Workshop
Hosts collaborate with Echeri to organize and promote the workshop while sharing responsibilities for logistics and attendee recruitment. In return, hosts attend the workshop free of charge.
Host Responsibilities:
- Work with Echeri to choose a 2- or 3-day workshop option and select workshop dates.
- Gather a minimum of 12 fully paid attendees, ensuring:
- At least 5 paid attendees registered 2 months before the workshop.
- 12 fully paid attendees by 1 month before the event.
- Once 12 attendees are confirmed (maximum 20 paid attendees), 5 partial scholarships will be available, which are managed exclusively by Echeri.
- Provide a venue for the workshop. A tuition waiver for the venue provider can be arranged if needed. Ensure the space can comfortably accommodate a minimum of 15 people. If possible, it is appreciated if the space includes access to tables and chairs for hands-on activities.
- Help promote the workshop, tagging Echeri and/or Lucia on social media or other communications.
- Offer a place for me to stay during the event.
Host Restrictions:
- All payments are handled directly by Echeri (via Eventbrite, Venmo, or PayPal).
- Hosts cannot receive workshop funds, determine attendees, or answer questions about the event—these are managed by Echeri.
- All promotional content must be reviewed by Echeri before publishing.
- I offer payment plans, which I agree directly with interested parties.
Other responsibilities:
- Participants will be asked to bring their own yoga mat, rebozo, and herbs if they wish to create blends during the workshop, but it is not mandatory.
- Snacks or Refreshments: As a Host, I will provide a light snack or lunch for attendees to ensure they feel supported and energized throughout the event. I just need support with purchasing in advance since I don’t live there.
In this workshop we will cover:
- Module 1: Mexican Traditional Medicine & Midwifery: Deep dive into the philosophy and practices.
- Module 2: Pregnancy, Labor, Postpartum Care & Remedies: Practical application of traditional therapies.
- Module 3: History & Culture of the Rebozo: The sacredness, significance, and cultural context.
- Module 4: How to Use the Rebozo: Practical skills for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care.
- Include hands-on demonstrations, with plenty of time for practice.
Payment & Accessibility
- Early Bird Discounts: I use early bird to encourage early registration.
- Payment Plans: To ensure easy access for participants with financial constraints through flexible payment plans.
- Support for Indigenous Communities: 40% of proceeds will support health centers in Michoacán, emphasizing the ethical approach.
If you have any questions or need clarification on either option, please let me know. Once you’ve decided which role suits you best, we can finalize the date, venue, and promotion plan to bring this enriching workshop to your community. Let’s work together to make this opportunity a reality!
Warm regards,
Lucia Echeri
